Janakraj Patel remembers the day around Christmas 2011, when a family called his EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS® store in Daytona Beach to order a fresh fruit arrangement for a relative who couldn’t make it to their family celebration. It was the end of the day, and the customers were from out of town. Janakraj could have declined their request, but instead he pushed the order through and delivered it to the grateful recipient. The next day, the woman’s family called and expressed their gratitude for making her Christmas sweeter. Janakraj felt a little like Santa Claus. (continued below)
That’s when the impact of his EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS® business hit him:
“When a customer calls us back and says, ‘Thank you for making this day special for us,’ that’s the most rewarding part of this business,” Janakraj says. “In my previous line of work, the customers went in and out all day and I didn’t get a chance to know them. Here, it’s a special feeling when you can enjoy your customers, learn about them and make them happy—it feels good.”
Janakraj used to own two gas station/convenience stores in the area. One day a friend who owned an EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS® store in Virginia Beach told him about all the positive aspects of being an EA franchisee. Soon afterwards, Janakraj set out to own his own store, and opened his doors on June 8, 2011.
“When I started the process of opening a store from the ground up, the Edible Arrangements corporate office was on top of everything,” Janakraj says. From store selection and helping me out with the lease through construction suggestions, the support was excellent.”
Janakraj now lives the EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS® mission of WOWing his customers every chance he gets:
“I love to make a delivery and see the expression on my customer’s face when I pull out an arrangement. Then the customer says ‘WOW!’ And of course a smile comes up on my face too!”
Besides making his customers happy, Janakraj loves the freedom owning an EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS ® store gives him to spend more time with his wife and two-year-old son. He’s planning to open another store soon.
“Edible Arrangements is it right now,” he says. “They’re the leader in making every occasion special.”
