When Kevin Cianciulli saw the message from the EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS® corporate office looking for energetic, positive, passionate franchisees to be featured in a series of upcoming commercials, he immediately thought of his wife and business partner, Vanessa. In fact, he was so excited about the prospect that he called and volunteered her for the part without telling her. (continued below)
“I think the reason why Kevin decided to suggest me is that he knows I wouldn’t have done anything like that on my own,” Vanessa says. “I’m the kind of person who likes to hide in the back—I don’t like attention.”
But Vanessa stepped out of her comfort zone and agreed to make the three-day trip to Toronto where the commercials were being filmed.
“I was still in a state of shock, but it was a wonderful experience—I was treated like a celebrity,” Vanessa says. “I had never been out of the country by myself or away from my children, so it was definitely a journey for me.”
Kevin and Vanessa’s journey to EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS® has been a long one. Making a leap of faith, the couple left their jobs in Massachusetts and moved more than 1,000 miles to Georgia to open their first store in 2007. Building on their success, they opened their second store in Aiken, South Carolina in 2010, and are planning to open another store in Augusta, Georgia.
“My favorite part about this business is coming to work and knowing you’re going to put a smile on someone’s face today, no matter how you feel,” says Kevin.
Vanessa adds that on a personal level, she’s learning about herself every day. And being on that production set in Toronto was a contributing factor to her entire growth experience as an EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS® franchisee:
“It changes you in a positive way— it matures you. You learn how to deal with people, you are calmer, it takes away your fear and you learn how to deal with obstacles. I’ve learned that I’m strong now. I’m comfortable making decisions and I can face any challenge. It has changed me a lot to the point where it makes me happier—I’m content in life.”
